Closer Than You Think
Long before any translation, certain Hebrew words crossed into nearly every language on earth unchanged. You likely say some of them yourself. Here is a small sample of the roots behind familiar names and words.
The Living Language
Twenty-two letters, each carrying both sound and number, form the Aleph Bet, the alphabet at the root of the Hebrew and Aramaic Scriptures. Long before chapter and verse, these letters carried meaning in their very shapes: a house, a door, a hand, a head.
To read the Aleph Bet is to read Scripture the way it was first written and first heard. Every class begins here, at the letters themselves, so that the words of the Torah, the Psalms, and the Prophets are no longer translated at a distance but encountered directly.
